NIDCR TMD Initiative & the Launch of the 360-TMD Center
In 2025, the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) launched the TMD Collaborative for IMproving PAtient-Centered Translational Research (TMD IMPACT) Initiative and initiated the support of three U54 TMD IMPACT Centers.
The collaboration between the University of Michigan, Harvard University, and MGH/BWH led to formation of the 360-TMD AI IMPACT Center focused on:
- Integrated Sciences: Drive discovery and innovation by integrating life sciences, engineering, AI, and health technologies to solve clinically-defined problems.
- Understanding Complex Determinants of Pain: Conduct comprehensive research on the multifaceted biological, behavioral, and environmental determinants of TMD to foster a deeper understanding of effective treatments.
- Development of Novel AI Tools: Pioneer new diagnostic tools and therapeutic interventions by leveraging cutting-edge technology, Gen AI modeling, and insights from our research.
In October 2025, the 360-TMD AI IMPACT Center released the first-generation of a poweful AI-driven TMD-Simulator, which supports multi-modal explorations and cutting-edge Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD research. The TMD-Simulator generates comprehensive, realistic TMD datasets for research validation, educational training, and translational discovery.
